The New Media 11 course in our BC curriculum is a Grade 11 English Language Arts course that focuses on digital literacy and modern communication. It offers a practical approach by using contemporary media forms to explore current issues, rather than traditional literature. The key focus of New Media 11 is to equip students with skills for an increasingly complex digital world, with
opportunities to demonstrate understanding through digital and print media.
Today’s lesson was an Author's Purpose Project Textbook Scavenger Hunt! The students were tasked with actively hunting through various textbooks to find 3 examples of writing to persuade, 5 examples of writing to inform, and 7 examples of writing to entertain. This shift from passive recipients of information to active, critical interrogators of text is a strategic exercise in developing students' critical thinking skills.
