Student Spotlight: Interview with 熊芊慧Hermione

1. Rasa: Congratulations on winning the talent competition, Hermione! Tell us about your performance and what inspired you to choose it?
Hermione: For this talent show, I chose A song, "A Million Dreams" from "The Greatest Showman" as my competition piece. Firstly, it's because of my love for this film. Standing on the stage and singing the song in it is my dream. Secondly, I think this song is very positive. During the singing process, I can express my lofty aspirations and heroic sentiments through songs
2. Rasa: What role does performing play in your life outside of school?
Hermione: Singing is not merely for performance; more importantly, during the singing process, I release my emotions, which can relieve my anxiety. Besides, this speciality is also my monetisation skill. Sometimes, I earn some pocket money by singing.
3. Rasa: Besides the talent competition, what other activities or clubs are you involved in at MIC?
Hermione: I joined the Model United Nations and the badminton club during the IG academic year. This year, I have newly joined the chess club and the tennis club. I believe that during these three years at MIC, I should pursue all-around development, so I have actively participated in both academic and sports clubs
4. Rasa: You’ve also completed your IGCSEs this year. How do you feel about your results?
Hermione: I achieved A* grades in Biology, Economics and Chinese in the IGCSE international examinations. Unfortunately, I did poorly in Business and only got a B, thus missing out on the scholarship
5. Rasa: Which subjects have been your strongest, and which have challenged you the most?
Hermione: I'm still adapting to the increasing learning intensity during the AS stage, so I'm not particularly strong in any subject. I think economics is quite challenging. Recently, I have also participated in the training for the NEC competition, and I hope to achieve good results in the preliminary round
6. Rasa: Was there a teacher, class, or experience at MIC that really impacted your academic journey?
Hermione: Of course it's you, Rasa! I used to be a person who didn't like sports. But since I came to MIC, through getting along and communicating with you, I gradually became interested in sports. For instance, I told you I would swim in the school swimming pool, and you asked me to challenge myself with 500 meters or more. I also decided to challenge myself and step out of my comfort zone. In addition, you will also teach me the principles of getting along with others and handling affairs, which have benefited me a lot.
7. Rasa: What are your goals for A Levels and beyond?
Hermione: At Level A, I chose the four subjects of Chinese, Mathematics, Economics and Business because I am very interested in the finance major. Everyone has their own expertise. I hope that after these two years of study, I can have a better understanding of my major
8. Rasa: Do you already have a dream university or career?
Hermione: If possible, the G5 universities in the UK would definitely be my first choice. The academic atmosphere there is quite strong. Furthering my studies there enables me to acquire more knowledge. Besides, I am a die-hard fan of Harry Potter. Going to the UK has always been my dream. One day, I will visit King's Cross Platform in London!
9. Rasa: What motivates you to keep striving for success in and out of the classroom?
Hermione: I think inner motivation is essential because I have always been clear about who I want to be and who I want to surpass. Not only that, but it is also very important to live up to one's parents' expectations. One's own achievements are also an honour for the family
10. Rasa: Finally, if you could give one piece of advice to younger students at MIC, what would it be?
Hermione: Don't be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Try more different courses and activities, and you might discover unexpected passions.
