As dusk fell over Foshan, on the sports field of MIC (Majestic International College), an astronomy night event titled “Exploring the Wonders of the Night Sky”—transcending cultural and disciplinary boundaries—quietly immersed over twenty students in an internationally minded classroom where science and imagination intertwined. This was not merely stargazing, but a immersive learning experience that used the starry sky as a bond, integrating Eastern and Western educational philosophies.
This astronomy night broke through traditional subject barriers, blending astronomy, physics, art design, and the cultivation of teamwork skills.
In the “Planet Walk” workshop, students measured a scaled model of the solar system with their steps, personally experiencing cosmic scale and understanding the scientific modeling methods commonly used in international astronomy. During the “Moonlight DIY” session, material kits sourced from innovative educational platforms guided students to appreciate the fusion of engineering and aesthetics through hands-on practice.
The telescope equipment, star charts, and teaching tools used in the event were configured with reference to domestic and international astronomy outreach standards. Some resources were even linked to international open-source science platforms and recommended systems of overseas educational institutions. The twelve constellation maps used in the constellation art segment integrated Western classical mythology with Eastern astral culture interpretations, presenting a cross-cultural narrative of the night sky.
At the same time, the event design adhered to internationally recognized safety and environmental standards: observation areas were cordoned off with standardized ropes, and red lighting that does not interfere with stargazing was used for nighttime illumination, reflecting a rigorous approach to aligning with international safety norms during execution.
This astronomy night highlighted three key brand attributes of MIC:
The school translated the philosophy of “whole-person development” into experiential and participatory activity designs. From scientific observation to artistic creation, from individual reflection to group collaboration, each segment aimed to stimulate students’ multiple intelligences and emotional expression.
The event was jointly planned and executed by Ronil, a science teacher from the BC Department, and students from the Sciences Club. Ronil holds a master’s degree in educational management and previously majored in general sciences. He is passionate about sharing astronomical and scientific knowledge with students, translating his professional expertise into accessible education.
The campus sports field transformed into an “open-air astronomy classroom” under the night sky, illustrating the school’s innovative educational view that “any space can be a learning environment.” The event turned abstract scientific concepts into embodied experiences, resonating with the forward trend of “experiential learning” in international education.
The “Galaxy Wish Wall” at the end of the event collected wish notes written by students in both Chinese and English. Each wish sketched a future vision for these young individuals—starting from the stars and extending toward the globe.
Through this astronomy night, MIC once again affirmed its founding aspiration: education is not merely the transmission of knowledge, but the opening of horizons, the crossing of intellectual boundaries, and dialogue between cultures. Here, the starry sky is not only an object of astrophysics but also a medium for sparking curiosity, fostering global competence, and nurturing a sense of world citizenship.
Moving forward, the school will continue to create more diverse and in-depth international thematic extracurricular activities, enabling every student to grow into an explorer who can both deeply engage with local culture and integrate into the rhythms of the world within an education environment that bridges East and West.
