Recently, Majestic International College (MIC) hosted a remarkable academic sharing session featuring Chloe, the Minister of Academics from the Student Council. Under the theme “My AP Learning Journey,” she offered an inspiring account of her academic growth. Having achieved five perfect scores out of eight AP exams and earning an interview invitation from the University of Cambridge, Chloe not only demonstrated outstanding personal achievement but also showcased the strength of MIC’s BC + AP dual-track academic model.
At MIC, students are enrolled in the British Columbia (BC) high school curriculum while simultaneously taking Advanced Placement (AP) courses, creating a system where one effort earns dual recognition. Our AP offerings span humanities, sciences, business, engineering, and more—from Calculus AB/BC, Physics C (Mechanics and Electricity & Magnetism), Chemistry, Biology, and Computer Science, to Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Psychology, French, and Latin. Students choose flexibly based on interests and future pathways, strengthening their academic profiles while completing BC-required credits.
Throughout her talk, Chloe emphasized the importance of thoughtful planning. MIC’s academic structure allows students to begin AP exposure as early as Grade 10, following a recommended progression that is scaffolded, interdisciplinary, and developmentally aligned.
• Progressive Difficulty:
– Grade 10: Entry-level subjects such as Psychology or Pre-Calculus
– Grade 11: Intermediate challenges like Physics or Economics
– Grade 12: Higher-level courses such as History or advanced sciences
• Matching APs with Intended Majors:
– STEM students benefit from Calculus BC, Physics C, and Computer Science
– Business-oriented students focus on Economics paired with Calculus
– Humanities and social science students gain depth from History and English-based APs
• Cross-Disciplinary Value:
STEM students taking Economics or History, and humanities students taking Calculus or Computer Science, often stand out in top-tier university applications thanks to their interdisciplinary academic profile.
On-Campus Resources: Beyond formal classes, we offer supplementary programs such as Art Portfolio Training, Computer Technology & Robotics, and other skill-based workshops that strengthen practical application.
Clubs & Competitions: Opportunities such as Model United Nations, Robotics Club, and academic Olympiads (e.g., Waterloo Math Contests, British Physics Olympiad) help students deepen subject knowledge, develop creativity, and build collaboration skills.
Global Exam Guidance: MIC assists students in navigating AP exam registration in regions such as Guangzhou and Hong Kong, and provides cost-effective planning to ensure testing runs smoothly.
The BC+AP model enables students to graduate with both a BC Dogwood Diploma and a strong AP score profile, giving them a distinctive edge in global university applications.
High-level AP courses and strong performance demonstrate intellectual curiosity, academic rigor, and learning capability—qualities especially valued by the UK G5, top 30 U.S. universities, and other world-class institutions. As more universities look for evidence of a rigorous curriculum, AP results have become a key indicator of academic ambition.
“At MIC, the BC curriculum gives us a solid international foundation, while AP courses give us the wings to pursue the world’s top universities,” Chloe concluded. Her journey illustrates how, with thoughtful planning and steady effort, every student at MIC can find a personalized academic path and transform aspirations into reality.
